Maldives welcomes over 22,000 tourists in first four days of the year

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives from January 1 to 4 have been recorded at 22,297, according to Ministry of Tourism's latest update.

For the same period last year, the arrivals stood at 20,842, and in 2021, the arrivals for the same period were at just 13,008.

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives so far in 2023 is up 7 percent from the same period last year.

The daily arrival average is 5,574 and the average duration of stay as of January 4 is 8.1 days.

Top 10 Markets of 2023 (as of January 4)

01. Russia: 4,402 – 19.2 percent

02. Italy: 3,854 – 17.3 percent

03. India: 1,605 – 7.2 percent

04. UK: 1,261 – 5.7 percent

05. Germany – 1,242 percent

06. USA: 990 – 4.4 percent

07. Kazakhstan – 687 – 3.1 percent

08. France – 514 – 2.3 percent

09. Switzerland – 457 – 2.0 percent

10. Sweden – 420 – 1.9 percent

Although Italy was reported as the top source market until January 3, it has been replaced by Russia in the top spot.

Meanwhile, the Maldives currently has 1,212 registered tourist properties, giving a combined bed capacity of 60,553. However, the operational property total is currently 1,208, with a combined bed capacity of 59,657.

01. Resorts: 172 registered (41,977 beds) | 168 operational (41,081 beds)

02. Hotels: 13 (1,640 beds) – registered and operational

03. Guesthouses: 869 (14,018 beds) – registered and operational

04. Safari Vessels: 158 (2,918 beds) – registered and operational

The Maldives government aims to attract 1.8 million tourists this year. Last year, Maldives achieved its 1.6 million arrival target on December 20.
