US tourist nabbed with MVR10 mil worth cocaine

A United States citizen arriving in Maldives from Brazil was apprehended by authorities with MVR10 million worth cocaine in his possession.

Maldives Customs Service in a press release attested that the US local was arrested on 11th May upon arrival.

Authorities discovered cocaine after inspecting his luggage due to erratic behavior upon arrival.

Upon preliminary tests by Maldives Customs, the substances were identified as cocaine.

Moreover, authorities confirmed that the substance weighed a total of 2.1 kilograms with the aforementioned street value.

Meanwhile, Customs has handed both the apparent peddler and the narcotic substances over to Maldives Police Service for further inquiry and probing.

In recent months, Maldivian authorities have apprehended several travelers over drug possession, who had flown into the island nation through Brazil.

In 2021, authorities arrested a Brazilian citizen in Maldives with 18 kilograms of illicit narcotic substances in possession while another tourist with 4.2 kilograms of narcotic substances in possession was arrested upon arrival.
