The Ministry of Tourism in their most recently publicized statistics confirmed that the total number of tourist arrivals as of 05th October reached 890,363.
As per the state body’s latest statistics, the tourist arrivals from 01st to 05th October 2021 reached 19,501 which is a 521.1% increase when compared with the same period in 2020. The arrival count during this period in 2020 reached just 3,140 owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and international travel restrictions.
While the tourist arrival in September 2021 marked an increase when compared with the same month last year, it is still a 15.6% decline when compared with September 2019 where the arrival count stood at 23,111.
Meanwhile, ever since taking the top position from Russia, India has maintained the top source market rank. The total arrivals from the country have reached 204,530 so far which is 23.0% of the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives.
Russia maintains second place with an arrival total of 174,095 so far, which is 19.6% of the total tourist arrivals to the country so far.
Germany is ranked third with an arrival total of 55,707 which is 6.3% of the total arrivals to the country while USA is at fourth spot with an arrival total of 36,175 which is 4.1% of the total tourist arrivals so far.
Moreover, Saudi Arabia, which has been a strong emerging source market to the Maldives, is currently in the fifth spot with an arrival total of 30,782 so far, which is 3.5% of the total tourist arrivals.
