A Bangladeshi national passed away Wednesday after being struck by a falling cement bag at a construction site in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
According to the police, the 24-year-old expatriate was a worker at the construction site, which was being developed by Jaah Investments near Hulhumale' Central Park.
The incident took place around 1730 hours and the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Police revealed that another construction accident had taken place at the same site last Saturday, when the cable of a lift used to hoist materials broke. Another worker was injured in the incident.
Police stated that they were investigating both in collaboration with relevant authorities.
Wednesday's accident is the latest in a string of construction incidents in and around the capital. A young girl passed away late December 2018 after a cement bag fell on top of her in Male' City, while a falling brick caused another death later. Authorities have penalised relevant parties for negligence and levied criminal charges as well.
