Bar Council announces fees structure for 2023

The Maldives Bar Council has set fees for its services, which will take effect in 2023. The announcement was made on Thursday.

Under the Maldives Legal Profession Act Amendment 2, Bar Council is granted the legal authority to seek other revenue means. The revenue streams will be used to manage and operate the council.

Before the second amendment to the act, the council had addressed concerns about its budget constraints.

According to the council, fees for its services will be effective January 1, 2023.

Bar Council Services and Newly Announced Fees Include;

-Request for Law Practice Permit: MVR 2,000

-Request for litigating permit at Supreme Court: MVR 2,000

-Request for litigating permit at High Court: MVR 1,500

-Public Notary Renewal and Issuance Permit: MVR 2,000

-Registration of Law Firms and Annual Fee: MVR 2,000

-Registration of Legal Practice and Annual Fee: MVR 1,000

-Renewal of legal advocacy/litigation permit card: MVR 500

-Renewal of Law Practice Permit if lost: MVR 1,000

-Translation of Law Practice Permit: MVR 1,000

-Certificate of Good-standing: MVR 1,000

-Administrative fee for ExCo Election: MVR 5,000

The second amendment to the Legal Profession Act cites four specific revenue streams for the council. This includes donations from lawyers, fees paid for services provided by the council, and fees and fees collected from training programs or other initiatives conducted by the council.
