Deputy Attorney General, Ahmed Usham, resigned from his position on Thursday.
Usham revealed that he resigned from his position after a directive from the President’s Office. He further clarified that he was not dismissed from his position even though a new AG was appointed on Wednesday, and that he had remained in the position after the change of administration upon request by the President.
Usham was appointed as the Deputy Attorney General in 2013, during the regime of former President Mohamed Waheed. He held the same position even in former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration as well.
Prior to being appointed as the Deputy AG, he held the position of Deputy Solicitor General in the Attorney General’s Office.
His successor, Khadeeja Shabeen, received her appointment on Wednesday.
