Speaking at the High Achievers Award Ceremony 2022-2023 held at Dharubaaruge, Male' City, the Minister stated that much work needs to be done for the country's prosperity in the education sector.
Noting that the number of students who pass primary grades has significantly declined, Minister Shafeeu revealed that the percentage of students who pass Grade 3 Dhivehi subject has declined below a prominent 40 percent. Meanwhile 6th graders who produce passes in the subjects, Math, English and Dhivehi has also notably decreased by 50 percent, he added.
The Minister emphasized that this is a cause for concern and stressed that the the overall percentage of passes in primary grades must be elevated to generate higher A Levels and O Levels passes.
"Overall, the expenditure on primary grades are comparatively lower than in secondary grades. The historical significance associated with primary grades has also declined. The assurance I want to give is that the Ministry will initiate several efforts to improve the results of students in primary grades," said Minister Shafeeu.
Meanwhile, a project funded by a MVR 9.5 million grant was also launched earlier in August to address barriers posed to the developments of the nation's education sector. Minister Shafeeu stressed that raising the percentage of students who pass primary grades is integral to achieve the goals outlined in the project as well.
The country will see development only through strengthening its educational standards, added the Minister, further highlighting that everyone must combine efforts to achieve this aim.
