The Ministry of Education has affirmed its commitment to ensuring sufficient teacher staffing in all schools as the new academic year commences.
The shortage of teachers in schools has been a persistent concern for parents in the past. However, the ministry announced on Sunday, August 6, that it has implemented several measures to address this issue and ensure readiness for the upcoming academic year.
The ministry affirmed its commitment to ensuring an adequate number of teachers in all schools. To achieve this, it has employed 6,516 local teachers and 1,843 foreign teachers. Additionally, the ministry is actively engaged in the distribution of textbooks to schools across the Maldives in preparation for the upcoming academic year.
The new academic year began with over 84,000 students, out of which 73,000 are enrolled in 216 government schools. In Malé region alone, more than 25,000 will be attending to schools in Malé, Hulhumalé, and Vilimalé.
