The land reclamation work for Laamu atoll Kadhdhoo Airport has been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for MVR 390 million.
During a ceremony held at the Economic Ministry, the agreement was signed by Director General Fathimath Shaana on behalf of the ministry while Managing Director Adam Azim, signed on behalf of MTCC.
Under the project, land reclamation is to be completed within a period of 10 months, while the shore protection work was assigned to be completed within a period of one year and 10 months.
A new international airport will be developed on the reclaimed land at Kadhdhoo. This will include a 2.4-kilometer runway and an international passenger terminal.
The government has decided to reclaim 57 hectares of land to expand Kadhdhoo Airport. This expansion will involve covering a 4,433-meter stretch with rock boulders.
