Police speedboat catches fire in Gan in Laamu atoll

A fire broke out aboard Maldives Police Service's (MPS) speedboat '34', docked at the 'Thundi' jetty in Gan in Laamu atoll on Sunday.

According to MPS, reports of the fire were received at approximately 0345 hrs early Sunday morning.

Police further revealed that the rope attaching the boat to the jetty was cut off when they arrived at the crime scene, drawing suspicion to a deliberate arson attack.

With assistance from MNDF, the fire was extinguished at approximately 0500 hrs.

However, the speedboat sustained damages beyond repair.

The fire did not cause any damage or injury to any individual.

Although no arrests have been made, police confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the mater.
