Lower courts elect new representative to JSC

Laamu Atoll Judicial constituency's Chief Magistrate Ali Shareef was elected on Saturday to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to represent lower courts.

The election was held as the current member representing lower courts in JSC, Juvenile Court Judge Mohamed Eesafulhu's term recently concluded.

Judge Shareef won the election after competing against Criminal Court's Chief Judge Ahmed Hailam and Fiyoaree Court's Chief Magistrate Abdul Razzaq Mohamed.

He won with 127 votes. Meanwhile, Judge Hailam secured 37 votes and Judge Abdul Razzaq got one vote.

A total of 21 ballots were placed with a box in one island from each judicial constituency.

Local media Mihaaru reported that 93 percent of the lower court judges cast votes for this election.
