Malé City Council announced seeking a contractor to renovate Sultan Park.

The council's announcement came after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu posted on X about his sadness over the deteriorated state of both Rasfannu Beach and Sultan Park.

The announcement by the council that followed the president's tweet said tender submission is now open for contractors to renovate the park.

Interested candidates are encouraged to inquire before 18th February and submit their tenders before 24th February.

Only local companies, partnerships, local investment and business permit holders are eligible to participate in the bidding.

After inspecting both locations, President Muizzu also said in his post that the current Rasfannu and Sultan Park, which were developed during his term as mayor, were respites to the people of the heavily congested city of Malé.

From the facilities developed at the time, Rasfannu, Sultan Park and even the Tsunami monument area are all in poor condition due to poor upkeep over the years. According to reports, Rasfannu was not renovated due to an issue between the council and MTCC.

The city council said that although it was the responsibility of the city council to maintain the parks and squares Rasfannu was handed over to MTCC and that the company's kiosk there was provided in exchange for maintenance.

The council also revealed that it would have to do infrastructure work on the site instead of repairs, but the city council does not have the budget to do so.
