Laamu atoll Gan Council has once again invited interested parties to lease and manage the atoll's famous 'Ruhgandu' site, as part of the 'Varuvaa' scheme, which facilitates the leasing of islands for agricultural purposes.

The council's announcement stated that they are currently looking for interested parties who are willing to lease and manage the plot. The bidding window for interested parties was opened on Tuesday, May 16, according to the authority.

Interested parties must submit their bid application forms before May 21.

Gan Council's president, Ahmed Zaki, said that they are seeking interested parties after the previous lessee was released from their contractual obligation. The previous party had managed the area for the past three years, he said.

The famous Laamu atoll ‘Ruhgandu’ is comprised of palm trees that were cultivated from seeds imported from Malaysia 26 years ago. It is also the largest palm tree line in the Maldives.

Developed under the guidance of former Atolls Minister Ilyas Ibrahim, the ‘Ruhgandu’ is a famous landmark and a popular destination for travelers visiting the atoll.
