United World Colleges (UWC) Maldives announced applications are open for scholarships between 2019 and 2020.

The deadline for all applications is currently set for January 15, 2019.

All applicants are required to be Maldivian citizens between 15 to 17 of age, who have received an overall final grade of C or above in the final term of Grade 10.

Applicants must be committed to leave Maldives for the two-year duration of the programme.

Students with physical, learning, and or mental disabilities are also encouraged to apply for the course.

All the necessary information for Maldivian applicants are available on its website.

Each year, UWC Maldives conducts a rigorous process in order to select the most deserving students for the scholarship. The selection process begins with the submission of an application form, followed by a two-day selection camp and ending with a final round of interviews from applicants shortlisted from within the camp.

UWC teaches the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, a two-year educational course that is aimed primarily at 16 to 18-year-olds.

Graduates are provided with an internationally accepted qualification that is recognized by many universities worldwide.

IB Diploma students are required choose a course from each of the following six subject areas:

1. Studies in Language and Literature 2. Language Acquisition 3. Individuals and Societies 4. Sciences 5. Mathematics 6. The Arts

However, instead of a course in the arts, students may choose to study another science, individuals and societies, or language acquisition course

Over 95 percent of Maldivian graduates of the diploma programme have secured scholarships to pursue undergraduate degrees in prestigious universities in the USA and elsewhere.

Among its notable Maldivian alumni are President's Office Policy Secretary Aminath Shauna, well-known Maldivian Al Jazeera journalist Zaheena Rasheed and UNDP Programme Assistant Mohamed Nabeeh Asim.
