Ministry of Finance, on Thursday, issued a tender seeking contractors to develop a tertiary hospital in two islands.

According to the ministry, tertiary hospitals are to be developed in the islands of Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, under contractor financing

The finance ministry will open bidding for the projects on September 13 till October 21, with the bid selection to commence on October 22.

The ministry has tendered a bid security of MVR 2.3 million for each project.

Last year, the Ministry of Health announced that efforts to develop five regional hospitals across the country to tertiary standards were underway.

Although the government previously planned to upgrade existing regional hospitals, the decision to tender for the separate tertiary health facilities came after assessments revealed that the hospitals can no longer be expanded with renovations.

The now-recused Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen then-stated that the objective was to eliminate the need for people to seek medical help in Male' and reduce the burden on the capital's hospitals by ensuring the availability of advanced medical services in the atolls.

The government is also seeking contractors to develop new buildings for the Health Centers in Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll and Milandhoo, Shaviyani Atoll.
