Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) clears all debt to national airline Maldivian run by Island Aviation Services (IAS).
While speaking to local media Mihaaru, Maldivian's Public Relations Manager Moosa Waseem revealed that PPM paid MVR 3.8 million to the company.
"PPM finished paying off all their debts to us yesterday." said Waseem.
The sums were for tickets from PPM's campaign trips for Presidential Elections 2018.
When the issue initially surfaced, PPM had owed MVR 4.8 million. However, once the case was filed at court, PPM had settled MVR 1 million out of the total sum.
After Maldivian appealed, the Civil Court ordered PPM to pay the due amounts.
At that time, PPM claimed that the party failed to pay the amounts since the Elections Commission had withheld a large portion of party funds from them, due to a case at the Supreme Court regarding PPM's most recent congress. However, once the case was resolved, the EC requested Ministry of Finance to issue the funds.
PPM paid the funds amidst EC requesting Finance Ministry to give MVR nine million from the state funds to the party.
