Baa atoll Kendhoo Council has said today that the electricity issues on the island remain unresolved.
Kendhoo faced an island-wide power outage yesterday after two of the three generators powering the island broke down.
Kendhoo had two 400kW generators and one 200kW generator on the island. Of these, the two 400kW generators are now damaged beyond use.
Kendhoo Council President Ibrahim AbduRahman said that a team from Fenaka visited the island last night to attempt fixing the generators. Through their efforts, one generator was recovered enough for temporary use.
Now, electricity is being provided to different areas of the island in intervals, with each area getting power for 45 minutes at a time.
Kendhoo has been facing electricity issues over the past six months as well, culminating in the total power failure experienced yesterday. Over the past months, the island faced intermittent power cuts, concerns of which they had raised with Fenaka and other relevant institutions. Although they were assured the matter would be resolved ahead of last Ramadan, they remain awaiting a solution.
AbduRahman said that yesterday's complete power failure was the result of the previous issues having been left unaddressed.
