Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Wednesday night lifted the restrictive measures placed on three resort islands where COVID-19 was detected.

In a press release, HPA revealed that the quarantines were lifted from Kuredu Island Resort from 1600 hrs, and Sandies Bathala and Kuramathi Maldives from 1900 hrs onwards.

Despite the lift, HPA warned that the managements of the three resorts are to keep the identified high-risk individuals cordoned off and in isolation until the mandated periods end. The agency added that high-risk and low-risk individuals must be kept segregated.

HPA also directed resort managements to ensure that all individuals adhere to infection prevention and control procedures, with public health professionals present to implement them.

The agency added all individuals must undergo exit screening prior to leaving the islands.

Kuredu, Sandies Bathala and Kuramathi were placed on lockdown after suspected cases of the coronavirus were detected in the resorts. HPA has since confirmed that four foreign nationals from Kuredu, and two from Bathala and Kuramathi each, tested positive for COVID-19.

The patients are being kept at the quarantine facilities established in Farukolhufushi and Vilivaru. Authorities are yet to confirm whether all the patients were foreign staff or tourists from the resorts.
