Abbas Adil Riza, who previously worked in the embassy during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, has once again been appointed to a post at the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia.

While Riza has been appointed to this post, he has earlier made strong accusations and criticisms of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Mihaaru reports that Riza has commenced reporting to duties now, participating in the pre-posting orientation programs as well.

Abbas is among those who broke away from the main Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) party after President Dr Muizzu assumed presidency. He worked with the faction acting in opposition to the government. Former President Yameen, who had previously led PPM, had at the time tasked Riza and former Minister Maleeh Jamaal to run the party.

During that period, Riza made multiple allegations against President Dr Muizzu in the continuous press briefings held by what was then known as the Yameen Faction of PPM. However, upon Yameen taking the initiative to form his new party, People's National Front, Riza distanced himself from the party and its activities, slowly entirely removing himself from the picture.

There is also a notice by the Maldives Police Service stating that it is attempting to locate Riza for failing to attend court hearings against him on charges of threatening to destroy property through his earlier statements calling to 'set fire to the Indian High Commission', and attempting to incite unrest and violence within Male' City through other statements on social media Clubhouse.

While the court hearings were previously stalled due to his failure to attend hearings, it is unclear if any related hearings have been held after his return to the Maldives. Although he was initially arrested in relation to the case, he was later released.
