TC Sport Club defeats Super United Sports in penalty shootout, emerges the winner of U19 Youth Championships 2024

TC has triumphed the U19 Youth Championships 2024 with a score of 5-4 secured during the penalty shootouts against Super United. The match has ended without a single goal from either team although several attacks and one offside goal was observed.

TC Sports Club has defeated Super United Sports in the penalty shootout of the final match held last night with a score of 5-4 and emerged the champions of the U19 Youth Championships for the first time.

The final match of the championships held last night at the Galolhu Stadium located in Male' City had ended in a draw without a single team scoring a goal.

The subsequent penalty shootout saw TC miss a goal sent by Ismail Afaaz, which flew above the goalpost outside the line. The penalty shot by Super United's Ahmed Nawaf was defended by TC's goalkeeper Mohamed Shiyaz and the goal that triumphed the championships for TC was scored by Suzan Hassan Ahmed of Super United who had also missed the penalty.

TC's successful five penalties were sent in by Ali Alsan, Abdulla Faizan Abdul Gafoor, Ahmed Naahil Ibrahim, Abdulla Zifan and Muzdhaan Hassan. Meanwhile, Hassan Haisham Hamidh, Mohamed Shaffaan Abdul Muththalib, Mohamed Aiman Ali and Ahmed Athuvaan Ali had scored the four penalties for Super United.

Although Super United had scored a goal during a series of attacks in the second half on the match, the referee had deemed it an offside goal. TC had subsequently begun launching had heavily attacks at the Super United's defense in the last 15 minutes of the match.

Among these, an attack sent by Faizan of TC had hit the side of the goalpost, while the next attack by Muzdhan, who had shot past three opposing players and sent a free goal in front of the goalpost had flown over the post. The best player of the final match was awarded to the goalkeeper of TC, Shiyaz.

Both TC and Super United had advanced to the finals without losing a single match. The preceding match where the two team in the same group met had ended in a draw once again with a score of 1-1.

With five successful goals, Mohamed Izan Ali of Super United took home the Golden Boot for the top scorer of the championships. Meanwhile, TC's Coach, Ahmed Nimadh (Nima) was crowned the Best Coach of the championships while Maziya Sports and RC secured the spot of the Fairplay Team.

The dream team of the competition is formed with TC's goalkeeper Mohamed Shiyaz, TC's players Hussain Sammah, Abdulla Faizan Abdul Gafoor and Ahmed Naahil Ibrahim as well as Super United's Ahmed Nawaf Fauzy, Hassan Haisham Hamidh, Mohamed Izan Ali, Mohamed Shaffan Abdul Muhthalib in addition to Club Eagles' Aiman Hassan, Maziya's Mohamed Afzal and Club Green Street's Ahmed Rasheed.

This competition marks the third time since Football Association of Maldives (FAM) had begun the U19 Youth Championships. The first competition held in 2018 saw Green Street triumph the tournament through a penalty shootout with a score of 4-3 after the full time ended without a single goal from either teams. The following tournament held in 2021 saw Eagles defeat Super United in the finals with a score of 1-0.
