Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Thursday, paid a courtesy call on the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, during his official visit to the country.jn b.v.
During the call, Minister Shahid conveyed well wishes on behalf of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and congratulated Rajapaksa on his recent appointment to the Premiership.
Shahid asserted Maldives' commitment to work closely with Sri Lanka to consolidate the "strong bonds of friendship" that exists between the two neighbouring nations.
Moreover, the Minister also met with the Prime Minister's brother and Sri Lankan President Gotabaye Rajapaksa, and expressed his confidence that both countries will "flourish" under the President's leadership.
In addition to the state leaders, the Foreign Minister held a meeting with his counterpart, the Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs Dinesh Gunawardena, discussing potential avenues to increase trade, investments as well as people to people contact.
The Minister is also scheduled to meet Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya and Minister of Mahaweli, Agriculture Development and Internal Trade Chamal Rajapaksa.
The top diplomat was accompanied to the meetings by Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzak and Deputy Head of Mission Khadeeja Najeeha.
