Immigration Watch, an online portal through which reports and information on illegal immigrants can be submitted, has received 290 reports within the span of a month.

Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology said on the website which reports news on state institutions, Sarukaaru, that 290 cases have been reported thus far via Immigration Watch introduced on July 17. The Ministry said that Maldives Immigration is probing 139 of these cases and assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure the validity of 146 cases.

Five of the reported cases are unrelated to the matter at hand, he added.

Cases can be lodged at the portal which is accessible through the Immigration's official website, Imuga, even anonymously.

One of the tasks of high precedence to the current administration is identifying undocumented immigrants and deporting them from the country. Over 2,000 expatriates were deported over the last seven months and raid operations are also ongoing to identify expatriates conducting illegal businesses in Maldives.

Over 150 expatriates working illegally in the country have been detained so far through these operations.
