India's Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj arrived in Maldives, on Sunday, for a two-day state trip.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, along with several ministry officials, welcomed Minister Swaraj at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The Indian Minister's visit follows an official invitation from Foreign Minister Shahid and the trip's itinerary includes an official meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla as well as with Minister Shahid himself.
A joint ministerial meeting hosted at the Foreign Ministry will be attended by the Foreign Minister, Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula, Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon, Minister of Environment Dr Hussain Rasheed, and Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail.
Over the course of the state visit, ongoing and future collaborations between India and Maldives, including the implementation of the agreed outcomes of President Solih's state visit to India in December 2018, will be discussed.
Per statements released by the Ministry, the discourse is expected to centre around mutual cooperation in the health sector in addition to looking at ways to promote development and the enhancement of "people-to-people contact".
