Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources had submitted the case to the Civil Court after Sri Lankan vessel 'Pushpa Kumara' was found fishing illegally in Maldivian waters. They asked for vessel owner Thamantha Rukumal Perera to be fined MVR 400,000.
The Civil Court ruled in Perera's absence on Wednesday that he must settle the fine within 30 days from October 15.
In addition to this, the Court ruled that the vessel in question will be seized by the State.
The Maldives has also previously fined and seized foreign vessels for conducting illegal fisheries activities in its territory.
