The government is still owed MVR 10 billion, which includes MVR 5.5 billion in taxes and MVR 4.3 billion in resort rent.
Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has recovered MVR 639 million in taxes and other unpaid fees that will go towards government revenue during the second quarter of the year.
According to MIRA's latest report, MVR 515 million was collected through repeated reminders and notices to pay overdue taxes over the past six months. MVR 93 million was recovered through debt clearance, MVR 21 million through freezing bank accounts, and MVR 12 million in overdue payments.
MVR 135,000 was collected by reminding taxpayers, and MVR 10,000 was recovered through court proceedings.

MIRA conducted 83 audits over the past six months including 14 audits related to Business Profit Tax (BPT), 10 audits related to General Goods and Service Tax (GGST), 17 audits related to Tourism Goods and Service Tax (TGST), 37 audits related to income tax, and 5 audits related to green tax, revealing an additional MVR 93 million owed to the state.
According to MIRA 10,796 individuals have not filed their tax returns and 8,947 individuals have been identified as tax evaders.
MIRA is also offering installment plans for tax defaulters, allowing 162 parties to repay up to MVR 364 million in installments.
