PG will be seeking a second review of High Court's decision to not hold Moosa Ahmed's alleged murderer Ibrahim Sammah in remand pending the outcome of High Court's review of the lower court ruling which found Sammah not guilty.
Prosecutor General's Office (PG) has decided to appeal the remand rejection of a suspect who is charged in connection with the murder of Moosa Ahmed at the Supreme Court for a second time following High Court's ruling to not hold the accused in remand.
The suspect in question is Ibrahim Sammah, Fathuhy originally from Alifu Dhaalu atoll Maamigili. He stands accused of killing Moosa Ahmed, originally from Vaavu atoll Keyodhoo, near Items, a shop in the capital city of Malé in September of 2017.
However, his trial at the Criminal Court concluded finding him not guilty, which was then appealed at the High Court by prosecutors. Prosecutors sought to have him held in remand until High Court issues its verdict, which had been rejected.
The remand rejection was then escalated to the Supreme Court, and presiding judges ordered the High Court to review his remand. High Court complied with the order and issued a second ruling last week on Sammah's remand, maintaining its original stance.
Following the verdict, PG Office announced that it will re-appeal the remand rejection at the Supreme Court for a second time, and that the application will be filed with the court today.
Along with Sammah, several other individuals were also charged in connection with Moosa's murder. While one was found guilty, Criminal Court ruled that the other two individuals were not guilty.
