Bulk career Navio Amaryllis runs aground in Maldives on the reef of Rasfaree, Kaafu Atoll.
This bulk career, sailing under the flag of Panama is 189.99 meter (623.23 feet) long with carrying capacity of 58,735 tons.
The ship was sailing from India to South Africa when the accident occurred due to engine failure, according to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). There are a crew of 19 Filipinos on board and all are safe.
Accidents like this often lead to oil spillage, which would harm the reef it is aground on. The photos MNDF has released show that the boat is stuck in a shallow area of the reef.
However, they said the boat was not carrying a large amount of oil.
MNDF said they were informed of the incident around 1 pm on Thursday afternoon. MNDF were working alongside the owners of the boat and the authorities to re-float the boat.
