10 sports cars towed from Hulhumale' Central Park area

Two of the suspects are currently held in remand pending the outcome of their trials, while the third has been given a 15-day remand.

Police have towed 10 sports cars from the Hulhumale' Central Park area from places where vehicle parking is prohibited.

The Central Park area has become largely occupied by parked sports cars, with most of the space taken up by these vehicles.

According to a senior police official, the cars towed last evening were registered to drive in areas outside of Male' and were also parked in restricted zones.

While towing was conducted under normal procedures, it follows a recent incident in which a speeding sports car struck a bystander in Hulhumale' Phase 2 on Wednesday afternoon, intensifying concerns about traffic issues in the area.

According to photos of the crash, the car in question was not registered to be driven the Malé area, as its number plate indicated that it was registered in the B-Zone, which is north and south regions of the country.

The accident occurred when the sports car speeding in Hulhumale' Phase 2 collided with a man who had just stopped his motorcycle near Vinares flats. On impact, the man was thrown into the air, and parts of his motorcycle also broke and got scattered.

The victim sustained serious injuries from the accident, the police said.

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. The three arrested in the case are IkramuRahman of Henveiru Nooranmaage, Ibrahim Ikram of Maafannu Land of Garden, and Jinah Ismail of Aazaadhuge in Gaafu Alif atoll Kanduhulhudhoo.

Authorities have identified Ikram and Ikramu-Rahman as being in the car at the time of the crash before fleeing the scene, while Jinnah was present at the scene.

Both Ikram and Ikramu-Rahman were taken to Criminal Court for their remand hearing, where they were ordered to be held pending the outcome of their trials. Jinah, on the other hand, was taken to Hulhumalé Court, where he received a remand period of 15 days.
