Famous local movie star Ali Seezan has taken a break from his film career to contend in the upcoming parliamentary election slated for early-2024.
Seezan, with a long and notable career in the Maldivian movie industry, announced his decision to contend in the parliament seat on Sunday, October 22.
The movie star announced he was taking a break from acting earlier in October, but had not disclosed the reason back then.
The actor announced he will be contesting for the Thulusdhoo seat through Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition.
Seezan said he has always prioritized the cause of serving people during his acting career, and provided support to the general public and local organizations working for community empowerment. He views the parliament as a platform to serve the public instead of playing politics.
"My aim is to provide ease for public in areas they require assistance, and I am seeking to represent Thulusdhoo constituency that includes Dhiffushi and Thulusdhoo. I have close ties with the people of these two islands," Seezan said.
The actor promised to provide complete support to recommence stalled initiatives and projects in Thulusdhoo and Dhiffushi, if elected.
"We actually do not require prominent entrepreneurs to represent us in the parliament, but rather those who work closely with the public and understand their needs," Seezan added.
While the actor has officially announced his decision to run for parliament, he was seen actively participating in the campaign trail of president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
