President Mohamed Muizzu announced that a dollar ATM will be established in Maafushi by the end of the current year. In a video addressing public inquiries, the President, in response to a question from a Maafushi resident, confirmed ongoing collaboration with the Bank of Maldives (BML) to facilitate the installation of a dollar ATM on the island.
The President emphasized his commitment to fulfilling the promise of installing a dollar ATM in Maafushi, highlighting its necessity. Assuring swift action, he mentioned active discussions with the Bank of Maldives to expedite the process.
K. Maafushi, recognized for hosting the largest number of guesthouses in the Maldives, boasts 59 guesthouses with over 1,900 beds, contributing significantly to the state's tax revenue from the guesthouse sector.
Despite acknowledging that the dredging work and the installation of a dollar ATM in Maafushi have not yet commenced this year, the President expressed confidence in initiating these endeavors promptly. He pledged to uphold commitments to the people without delaying promises until the final year of his term. Notably, the previous government had undertaken dredging work on the island, reclaiming 25 hectares of land for the benefit of Maafushi residents.
