He has been identified as Ghanim Saleem, 37, Shabnamge, Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo.
Police said that Ghanim had been placed under arrest yesterday.
Kaashidhoo Council President Mohamed Amir said that the council, too, had received multiple complaints on different issues regarding the muezzin from members of the public.
Ghanim became the muezzin of the island's mosque first in 2021. He was later dismissed from his position, after which he was reinstated.
