COVID-19: Monitoring status lifted from Kaashidhoo

National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) on Friday revealed that the monitoring status was lifted from local island Kaasidhoo, Kaafu Atoll.

The island was placed under monitoring on April 15, after a 'direct contact' from a local who tested positive for COVID-19 from capital Male travelled to the island.

Hence, monitoring status is active for two resorts and one safari at the moment.

Maldives recorded its first confirmed case of COVID-19 from the capital city, Male', on Wednesday morning involving a local woman who presented to the flu clinic in Malé on April 14 after developing coronavirus-like symptoms.

In response, the Greater Male' region, including Male City, Hulhumale, Villimale, and Thilafushi, Gulhifalhu, remain under lockdown for 24 hours starting 1530 hrs on April 15. The lockdown has now been extended till May 1, after more cases were found, positive from Male.

Furthermore, HPA ordered a travel ban on all islands across the country as a precautionary measure.

Authorities request all individuals to follow precautionary guidelines and maintain social distancing even when stepping out of their homes for necessities.

Moreover, HPA urged individuals to inform the authorities immediately, if someone with a recent history of travelling to capital Male', resorts or liveaboards exhibit any COVID-19-like symptoms.

Maldives now has 28 confirmed and 12 active cases of COVID-19, with a total of 16 recoveries.

The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected over two million people and claimed over 145,521 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 547,295 people have recovered.
