Dialysis services have been introduced in Noonu atoll Velidhoo, offering convenient treatment options for kidney disease patients.

The service was introduced on the island as there is a high prevalence of kidney disease patients there.

To inaugurate the service, dialysis service was provided to two patients.

The service is also available in Manadhoo in the same atoll.

Velidhoo Health Centre's Senior Political Director Aminath Ruufa said that there are currently seven patients on the island suffering from kidney failure and needing dialysis. She said that due to difficulties in receiving the service, many families have opted to move to capital Male' City or even abroad.

Ruufa said that the service was commenced yesterday after one of the families who relocated to Male' returned to the island. The Health Centre is able to provide dialysis service to two patients at a time.

Ministry of Health said that dialysis service is now available in fifteen islands besides Male'. The government aims to introduce the service in all atolls. As such, the service was introduced in HA. Ihavandhoo last month. Later this month, it will also be introduced in Th. Veymandoo.

Currently, only six atolls remain where the service is not provided. These are AA, ADh, V, M, F and Dh. The government aims to complete introducing the service in all these atolls before the end of this term in office.
