According to the police, the person who was found dead inside a house in Malé City on Friday had entered the house with the intention of robbery.
In a statement to the media, the police reported that the man was found unconscious on the ground floor of Haalhalamaa in Henveiru ward, and it was determined that he was attempting to steal an electric cable from the premises.
During the investigation, it was revealed that he was electrocuted while trying to tamper with the cable. The deceased has been identified as a 43-year-old local male.
"There were clear indications that the body of the deceased had been electrocuted," the police said.
The police said that they recovered equipment used for robbery at the location where the man was found. It has been found that the man had a history of previous theft and robbery offenses.
Police had earlier said that the man was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
