Teams are gearing up for the Gold Cup, scheduled to commence next month, with coaches being selected and practice due to start.

Twenty two teams are set to participate in the tournament organized by Ninety Plus.

Ninety Plus Co-founder and experienced coach Mohamed Shazly said that is a significant success to have twenty two teams participating in this club, although it is designed for twenty four.

He asserted that the Gold Cup will renew enthusiasm for football.

Veteran Coach Ismail Asif (Kuda Heena) is set to coach the Raa atoll Alifushi team.

The coach said that Alifushi holds a special significance for him in football.

"I am here to renew memories of our [Club Valencia] win in the national league in this island. But more than that, I am once again here to assist in football related work," he said.

Kaafu atoll Maafushi, meanwhile, chose former Coach of the National Women's Football Team Ahmed Shareef (Dunga) as their coach.

Dunga also filled the post of Technical Director at Football Association of Maldives earlier. He has returned to football after a brief hiatus, during which he ran for a seat in the last parliamentary elections.

Fuvahmulah team has selected former defender of National Team Sobah Mohamed Ibrahim (Soba) as their coach. Sobah has previously coached in academies as well. One of his outstanding recent wins is leading Victory Sports Club to the finals of the second division tournament, and promoting them to first division.

Sobah will be travelling to Fuvahmulah tonight to officially take up his role.
