The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold the by-election for the Kaafu atoll Guraidhoo constituency on April 15.
The commission's Vice President, Ismail Habeeb, said nominations for the vacant seat would be opened tomorrow and given two weeks.
The by-election is being held following the death of Ibrahim Riza, who has been the Member of Parliament for Guraidhoo for the past 14-years.
MP Riza passed away in Malaysia on February 22 at the age of 55 after a long battle with cancer.
He was also a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in the government of former President Abdulla Yameen. Riza was also the Vice President of the Judicial Commission.
