Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced its decision to suspend Judge Abdul Bari Yoosuf of the Juvenile Court on Thursday.

In a statement, JSC revealed that it will probe a disciplinary issue of the judge, as the police are currently investigating him in connection to the corruption case of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Several members of the judiciary are accused of receiving amounts from the MVR 3.3 billion embezzled from MMPRC.

JSC stated that, in light of these developments, Judge Bari will be placed on temporary suspension.

Judge Bari previously sat on the bench of the Criminal Court, where he presided over several cases involving high profile politicians. He was abruptly transferred to the Juvenile Court in 2017.

JSC is currently investigating several judges over various issues. While a number of them are already on suspension, some have been dismissed from their posts as well.
