Maldives and Turkey to sign five agreements on key areas

Maldives and Turkey to sign agreements to provide assistance to the Maldives in five key areas.

These agreements are being discussed while Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu is currently visiting Maldives on Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid’s invitation. Minister Çavuşoğlu’s arrival to Maldives on Friday marks the first visit by a Turkish foreign Minister to Maldives since diplomatic relations was established between the two nations 42 years ago.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the visiting minister will meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih tomorrow, after holding official talks between the two countries.

The ministry said agreements will be signed to provide assistance in five areas; trade, culture and heritage, environment, agriculture and foreign service development.

Recently, the Chinese Foreign Minister visited Maldives and signed agreements to provide Maldives with MVR 1 billion grant aid.
