Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim's running mate Ameen Ibrahim has officially endorsed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for the upcoming runoff polls of the presidential election scheduled for September 30.
On Saturday evening's campaign rally, September 23, Ameen along with Qasim's advisor and former minister of health of the current administration Abdulla Ameen and former Deputy President of JP Ahmed Saud had allied behind President Solih as well.
Besides them, several senior members of JP had joined President Solih's campaign efforts.
"Our objectives and vision are the same, which is to reject injustice and create a peaceful future for the people," president Solih said.
He highlighted that the members who joined the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and its coalition of parties in their campaign efforts are familiar faces, who have been committed towards collective political and democratic reform.
President Solih further recalled efforts by MDP and JP members during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration. He highlighted their efforts as the then-opposition amid the May day unrest during Yameen's presidency.
He described the new alliance as a strengthening of the ruling party's efforts to secure victory in the second round of the election.
