Former Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has decided to run to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections through a Jumhoori Party (JP) ticket, contesting for the Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru constituency seat.

He has stated that he will be submitting his application form to the Elections Commission today.

"I appeal for the support of constituents as I roll up my sleeves to strive to make the constituents' dreams come true, after winning this election with the blessings of Allah," Ameen said.

Ameen served as the first Health Minister during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration. He resigned from his post after issues arose regarding the procurement of ventilators from a Dubai company during the Covid-19 pandemic.

After resigning from President Solih's administration, Ameen remained with the JP, although he was not politically active for a long period of time. He was seen to resume political activities during the run up to the presidential elections held last September, in JP leader Gasim's campaign events.

Initially, Ameen entered politics through the National Party. He later served as the Vice President of JP.

During former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan's administration, Ameen was appointed to the post of State Minister at the Economic Ministry. He later served as a Minister at the President's Office during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration.
