Multiple resorts have introduced special packages for the Eid holidays.
Resorts have introduced discounted packages for locals during Eid and school closures, some offers full board packages at reduced rates with prices ranging from USD 250 to USD 100.
This year, the Eid packages have extended beyond mid-range resorts to include high-end resorts such as Jumeirah and Banyan Tree.
Yoosuf Riffath, CEO of Capital Travel and Tours, said tha the increase in the number of resorts offering discounts above 50 percent is due to the fact that tourist arrivals are always low during off peak season in the Maldives.
Several travel agencies have taken to Facebook to promote full board rates and special offers for various resorts. These offers include deals such as free accommodation for children and discounts ranging from 50 to 80 percent off the regular rates.
According to Moodhu Holiday travel agency, Adaaran Hudhuranfushi resort has planned special Eid activities while Makunudhoo Island Resort provides full board package at USD 250 for two people, with complimentary stays for children under the age of five.
Currently, there are 170 resorts in the Maldives, accounting for approximately 70 percent of the country's bed capacity. The average daily tourist arrivals during the current period period is approximately 3,700. Tourism officials estimate that arrival rates will remain relatively the same until August. To counter the decline in tourist arrivals during the off-peak period, resorts have introduced special packages to attract visitors.
Despite the recent decline in tourist arrivals since May, the overall number of tourist arrivals for this year has increased by 13 percent compared with 2022. As of now, a total of 870,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives this year.
