The Parliament's Judiciary Committee on Thursday withdrew the decision passed on Wednesday by committee members to dismiss Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham from her position.

Local media reports that the decision was nullified as the dismissal was scheduled against Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s policies on such matters, and the motion was passed at a session where few committee members were present.

While the committee with a majority of the ruling coalition's major party MDP withdrew their decision to sack Bisham, Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj was absent at today's committee session as he was on leave.

Bisham had formerly stated in the committee that charges were pressed or withdrawn during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure lawfully through legal procedures. She further added that her decisions were not influenced in any way.

Members representing the current ruling coalition submitted a motion for Bisham's dismissal during the 18th Parliament as well. However, no decision was reached on the matter even when the 19th Parliament was elected.
