Parliament's Judiciary Committee issued a summons to Prosecutor General (PG) Aishath Bisham to appear for questioning on July 29.

Deputy Chair of the committee and Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj revealed late Tuesday that they are summoning the PG for an introductory meeting, and subsequently an inquiry on several cases.

Bisham was originally summoned to appear within the present week, however, it was delayed due to the PG departing to Dubai on an official trip on Tuesday.

Siraj revealed that Bisham departed after informing the committee of her trip, which ends coming Saturday.

According to Siraj, Bisham would be questioned over reasons for prosecuting a large number of people in violation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, violating the prosecutorial guideline, reasons for indefinite extended detention of certain people, and the purpose behind prosecuting former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer.

At the time of the summons, some lawyers at the PG Office had submitted a letter of concern regarding her to the Judiciary Committee. The main content of the letter submitted on June 13 was about the lack of legal action taken in former Assistant Prosecutor General Aishath Fazna Ahmed's sexual harassment case.
