President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Mohamed Sameer as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

This appointment designates Sameer as a member appointed to JSC by the president, in accordance with Article 158(h) of the Maldives Constitution and Article 3(8) of the Judicial Service Commission Act.

As per the Constitution, JSC committee includes the president-appointed member along with the Attorney General, Parliament's Speaker, a parliament MP, the President of Civil Service Commission (CSC), a member from the general public, a member representing the legal fraternity, and three judges; one from each level of the courts.

At a special ceremony held at the President's Office on Thursday, November 23, President Muizzu presented Sameer with his letter of appointment.

The new JSC member appointed by the President took oath of office at the ceremony, and was administered by the Supreme Court Justice Aisha Shujoon Mohamed.

Sameer previously served as a Public Prosecutor at the Prosecutor General's Office, a Senior Associate at Nasheed & Co, and as the Managing Partner at Sameer & Shamam LLP.

The previous JSC member appointed by the president was Masthoor Husny, who resigned from the post last week.

Earlier, President Muizzu appointed Attorney General Ahmed Usham as a member of JSC and handed the letter of appointment to him as well.
