The Judicial Service Commission (JSC), on Thursday, appointed Hathif Hilmy as the Chief Judge of the High Court and Ahmed Shakeel as the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court.

Both individuals received their letters of appointment during a ceremony held at JSC.

The judicial watchdog had opened applications for the position of Chief Judge at the Criminal Court after it was left vacant following the resignation of Judge Ahmed Hailam.

Shakeel previously served as a judge at the Juvenile Court and the Family Court. He was appointed to the Criminal Court in 2019.

Hathif's appointment filled the vacancy created after former High Court Chief Judge Shujau Usman resigned from his position after JSC submitted a motion to parliament seeking his dismissal.

From 2009 onwards, Hathif served as a judge of the Civil Court until being appointed to the High Court in November 2019.
