JSC to remove long-serving judges over flat scandal

Judicial Service Commmission (JSC) confirms its decision towards the termination of two of the longest serving judges from Maldives High Court.

JSC said in a statement that Judges Abdulla Hameed and Abdul Rauf Ibrahim will receive termination of their posts over a flat scandal.

The decision will come into effect after the approval period of the parliament.

The judges are alleged with acquisition of state issued apartments for reduced rates as compensation for swaying a particular court decision in favor of their aide.

Moreover, JSC notes that the issuance of the apartments were in violation of s.152 of the Constitution, since the article demands disclosure of information to and involvement of the Maldives parliament.

Furthermore, the commission stated that the actions of both the judges were in direct violation of the regulations dictating the disciplinary conduct of judges.
