The Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced former Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed to four months after he was convicted of hiding from law enforcement.
Under a court order, the police had attempted to bring him under custody in early February, in connection to the Supreme Court's landmark order to release political prisoners. Hassan Saeed was convicted of deliberately hiding from the police and obstructing law enforcement.
During the hearing held Thursday evening, Police testified that they had attempted to contact him after arriving at his apartment. Even after forcing entry, they had not been able to locate him.
Judge Adam presiding over the case, pointed out that as per the witnesses, Saeed was aware that the police had announced their search for him, and that knowingly disobeying a police order is considered an attempt at obstructing the law.
Although Saeed’s lawyers had requested to change his arrest to house arrest, the request was denied by Judge Adam.
Until his formal conviction, Saeed had been in remand over the bribery allegations levied against him.
