An abandoned premise previously used as a drug den, Maafannu Rabeeuvilla located in the capital city Male' has concluded it's demolition work fourteen days after commencement.

The demolition of old, abandoned premises in Male' City was sanctioned by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works carried out the demolition work.

Minister of Local Governance, Adam Shareef told State media, Public Service Media (PSM) during an interview that the work was completed without any workers sustaining injuries.

"It was demolished to the ground in 14 days. Considering the work, this is a very quick speed." said Shareef.

He further elaborated that glass of a neighboring house was shattered during the work, and an AC outdoor unit was also damaged.

"Reimbursement procedures for the house with shattered glass has been completed. Then, an AC outdoor unit also sustained some damages; that has also now been resolved," said the Minister.

Minister Shareef previously said that the demolition of Rabeeu Villa began after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu expressed concern about the potential hazard posed by the building, which had numerous cracks and was in a state of disrepair.

The five-story building had recently suffered additional damage after a fire broke out on its fourth floor. At the time, there were numerous complaints on social media about illegal activities taking place inside the abandoned structure.

Additionally, a dead body was also discovered in Rabeeuvilla last May during police efforts to locate the missing person. The body, found severely decomposed, was identified as an individual who had died from a drug overdose.
