President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Vice President Faisal Naseem as the Amir al-Hajj for this year's Hajj pilgrimage.
As the Amir al-Hajj, Vice President Faisal Naseem will ensure the smooth and safe journey of Maldivian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, the President's Office emphasized that ensuring the secure and smooth conduct of the Hajj pilgrimage is of utmost importance to the administration.
The first batch of pilgrims are scheduled to embark to Saudi Arabia on June 12. The pilgrims will leave to Mecca in six different flights scheduled on June 12, 13, 15, 16, and 19.
The Saudi Arabian government extended a total of 1,000 Hajj quotas to the Maldives this year. Besides the state-owned Maldives Hajj Corporation, the three private Hajj groups responsible for facilitating the pilgrimage received 90 quotas each.
According to the Islamic calendar, Hajj falls on June 27.
