President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Judge Mahaz Ali Zahir from the Drug Court to the vacant position on the Supreme Court bench.
President Solih presented the letter of appointment to Judge Mahaz at a ceremony held at the President's Office.
The judge previously served as an assistant state attorney at the Attorney General's Office and as an assistant public prosecutor at the Prosecutor General's Office.
Mahaz earned his Bachelor's Degree in Law at then-Maldives College of Higher Education, the current Maldives National University (MNU). He achieved his Master's Degree in Comparative Law at the International Islamic University Malaysia.
The judge is fluent in the languages Dhivehi, English and Arabic.
